What is Organic Farming? Organic farming is a type of farming method that is friendly to the environment. No synthetic chemicals or fertilisers are used. Organic farmers use a multitude of ways to improve the fertility of their farms and the vitality of their livestock and crops. They utilise homemade composts, foliar sprays, grow green manures (special crops grown for increasing humus and bacterial activity in the soil) and rotate their crops. What Is Organic Certification? A certified organic product means that the produce and the farming process have been inspected for organic farming methods over a period of 3 years. An independent specialist certification agency regulates the process. Certification organizations exist to provide assurance to the consumer that products and organizations that claim to be organic have met organic standards. Consumers are advised to look for a certification seal or the name of the certification agency on product. Organic certification means that: · No harmful chemicals have been applied for at least 3 years. · The farmer and processor have annual certification inspections. · They have kept detailed records of their practices. |
